Wednesday, August 15, 2012

Today we did several errands before our trip to the beach. As usual for us it turned stormy.  We thought it was going to blow over but we gave in before it got too nasty.  It still hasn't rained but the temperature has dropped.

We ended the busy day with the outdoor theatre production of The Lost Colony.  This year is their 75th year of production.

It was fun to see familiar landmarks from the water. After we went to the aquarium.  Then went to dinner and wandered about the waterfront area.

One of the sailboat highlights was the osprey in its nest.

We had a wonderful sail on the DownEast Rover yesterday.  We sailed from Manteo to close to Jockeys Ridge and several points between.

Between rain storms we visited the Lost Colony.

Chicamacomico Life Saving Station

We had a great time at the Chicamacomico life saving    Reenactment.  The US Life Saving Service was a forerunner of the Coast Guard.  Current members volunteer and using the original equipment demonstrate how they saved people from shipwrecks.

Whalehead Club

Another rainy day so we went north to Duck and Corolla. We saw the lighthouse , the  restored  buildings, including the chapel, then went to the Whalehead Club.  It was all very interesting. At the Whalehead Club tour we were each given individual recorders so we could listen to as much or little as we wanted.  The Tiffany lights, art deco details, and duck bill doorknobs were some of the highlights.
