North Myrtle Beach

We had a very nice week.  We spent lots of time sitting on the beach.
We also checked out some campgrounds for future reference, went to the museum for the 'Quilts of Gee's Bend' exhibit.
Fortunately the drive home was uneventful.

Freddy on our way to Willimsburg.

Saturday, March 27, 2010

It has been a great week! Spring is in Wwilliamsburg. The trees are all full of buds and all the bushes and trees are flowering.
There is so much construction and new housing developments are everywhere you look. Today though we drove about 15 minutes northwest and we were in trees and hunting camp areas. Once again the tourist map and reality did not match. The map looked like the road circled around and connected with the main road we know. Reality was the road ended so we had to turn around (Twice that happened!) It was still a nice day and we saw an area we had not yet explored. Tomorrow we head home.

We walked all around the historical area in Yorktown today and saw homes, churches, and businesses of the past. In the early 1700's William Rogers operated a pottery factory in Yorktown. His business was very sucessful at a time when everything was to be imported from England. Pieces of the many kinds of pottery, records, and the kiln have been found. He was refered to as 'the poor potter' perhaps to imply to England that his business was nothing to worry about.
